About
Rockette & Box is a Residential Design studio based out of Portland, Oregon. We specialize in designing creative interior and exterior spaces for private homes.
Our mission is to create beautiful, healthy spaces that bring you joy every day. We do this by learning the way you live, understanding your aspirations for your home, and responding with thoughtful design that honors your unique preferences.
Our philosophy is rooted in fostering harmony with the natural surroundings, resulting in spaces that surpass fleeting design trends. Instead, our creations are intended to mature and adapt over time. We delight in infusing a worldly aesthetic into our designs, blending the contemporary with the traditional, and weaving together captivating moods through inventive interplays of color, form, and texture.
We prioritize sustainability in every aspect of our work. Conscious selection of healthy materials, preference for locally sourced options, and preservation of regional site identity are among the key considerations we uphold.
We believe that individual thought and action matter — whether they impact one person or many, that kindness and empathy are most meaningful when directed at those who are different from us, that beautiful design occurs out of careful consideration for the humans that experience it, and the diversity of life that is touched by it.

Hello, I’m Shyana, the human behind Rockette & Box. I grew up in India in a very green, mellow and unhurried city. It’s where I developed an appreciation for staying connected to our natural world, for a gentler approach to life. I studied Digital Design before moving to Portland for work. It was challenging and rewarding work in many ways but as a youngish adult I found myself realizing that if I didn’t really really love what I was doing, I was going to be quite miserable. So, I went back to school to study Residential Architecture, something that has always animated me, spurred on by the amiable century-old craftsman that we had moved into around that time. I worked at a local architecture firm as a drafter after school before stepping out on my own, to pursue the work I love while making sure I was present for my young family.
My husband and I live with our two kids in a sweet old house tucked under bigleaf maples and Doug-firs in the Portland hills. When I’m not being swamped by my two hyperactive cuties, I enjoy puttering in the garden noticing little things, spying on critters, and trying to fit more flowers in my tiny sunny patch - thanks to the aforementioned lovely trees.
I named my studio after my beloved dogs, Rockette and Box, because they were the epitome of bright and authentic - ethos I strive to infuse in my work.
